About Ermelo

Ermelo, formerly Armel is a place on the Veluwe in the Dutch province of Gelderland. About 4000 years ago, the bell-beaker people settled on the sandy soils of Het Gooi and the Veluwe. These immigrants, from the Danube region and the Balkans, owe their name to finds during excavations in the 19th century in Het Gooi and later in the seventies on the Ermelosche Heide. Herewith grave items such as copper axes, fish hooks, daggers, arrows and arches, wrist guards, flints, bell-bells, pricks, hammers with anvils, billets and the like were found.
